Steve Witkoff, Trump's special envoy for the Middle East, said the first round of nuclear talks
between Washington and Tehran since the end of the 12-day war would be held "next week or thereabouts."
Donald Trump, President of the United States, also confirmed Witkoff's remarks at a press event ahead of a dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Asked for the exact date of the talks, he said: "I'd rather not say, but you'll read about it or see it tomorrow."
Asked about the central topic of the forthcoming talks with the Islamic Republic, he said he does not see "much reason" to continue negotiations, since he believes the Islamic Republic's nuclear program has been completely destroyed.
Trump went on to say: "The Iranians have asked for a meeting, and I will go. If we can get something down on paper, that would be good."
